What Are JUVEDERM Ultra® Lip Fillers? How Do They Work?
JUVEDERM Ultra® lip fillers help restore volume and hydration in the facial skin around your lips to give you a more youthful appearance. One of the main ingredients found in JUVEDERM Ultra® lip fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced by the body but slows down in production as we age. By restoring hydration and volume through these non-invasive lip injections, we can help you turn back the clock with subtle, long-lasting results. JUVEDERM Ultra® lip fillers are primarily used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the lips or to restore volume to thinning lips.
Lip fillers are injected around your lips once the area has been sterilized and numbed using a topical anesthetic. You may notice a tingling sensation or mild pressure while the product is being injected into your skin, though it isn’t as painful as one might expect. A similar but slightly different dermal filler, JUVEDERM Ultra Plus®, also contains lidocaine to help numb the site of the injection for less discomfort during the procedure.
What Are the Benefits of JUVEDERM Ultra® Dermal Fillers?
JUVEDERM Ultra® dermal fillers offer many benefits to our Rockville Centre, NY patients, including the following:
- Diminish the appearance of acne scars, smile and marionette lines, and facial wrinkles along the nasolabial folds (the area around your nose down to the corners around your mouth)
- Little to no downtime with minimum patient discomfort (resume normal activities immediately)
- Quick appointments (most lip injections take less than half an hour)
Are There Any Side Effects from JUVEDERM Ultra® Lip Injections?
Some patients may experience minor redness, swelling, pain, bruising, or tenderness around the site of the injection for up to a week after treatment, though this will vary from patient to patient. As with all dermal filler injections, there is a slight risk for infection or more complicated side effects, including temporary scabbing, permanent scarring, blindness, or stroke. Allergic reactions to the product are extremely rare. Dermal filler injections are safe when administered correctly by an experienced, board-certified dermatologist, such as Israel S. Eckman, M.D. at Long Island Dermatology. For the best results, we may advise against exposure to the sun, strenuous exercise, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours.
How Long Do Results from JUVEDERM Ultra® Lip Injections Last?
Many patients see results from JUVEDERM Ultra® lip injections immediately, with those results lasting up to one year. Follow-up treatments may be necessary to maintain desired results long-term. Are JUVEDERM Ultra® Lip Fillers Recommended for Everyone?
JUVEDERM Ultra® lip fillers are recommended for adults, though they may not be suitable for everyone. Allergic reactions are rare, but you should refrain from using this product if you have a known allergy to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers should not be used if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. They also may not be suitable for patients with a bleeding disorder or those taking blood thinners. Patients looking to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles under their eyes or in their cheeks may find a different dermal filler to be more effective (such as BOTOX® or Restylane®), as this kind is used mostly in the area surrounding the lips. You should always discuss cosmetic treatment options and concerns with your primary physician and our board-certified dermatologist before seeking treatment.
