What Is a Restylane® Lift? How Does It Reduce Wrinkles?

Restylane®, the dermal filler we prefer at Long Island Dermatology, is a clear injectable gel with hyaluronic acid as its main component. Restylane® adds volume to the skin through a synthetic material that physically fills in your wrinkles. The results can last anywhere from 4-6 months and can be administered in conjunction with BOTOX® if desired. This treatment option is most commonly used on facial wrinkles, though many of our patients have also requested to have it administered to:

  • Diminish scars or the hollows around their eyes
  • Enhance their cheeks
  • Plump up their lip volume

How Long Do the Results of a Restylane® Lift Usually Last?

Results will vary from patient to patient, but Restylane® lift results typically last at least six months or up to a year if you receive a follow-up treatment within the first 4-9 months. Follow-up Restylane® injections may be necessary to maintain desired results long-term. However, you may need less frequent visits or smaller injection doses over time. View before-and-after photos in our Results Gallery to get a more accurate picture about the expected results from Restylane® lifts and other dermal fillers.

Are There Any Side Effects from Restylane® Facial Fillers?

You may experience minor bruising, swelling, pain, tenderness, or redness around the site of your Restylane® injection. Most patients report minimal discomfort due to the ultrafine needles used for Restylane® injections. Patients with skin sores, acne, cysts, or rashes should refrain from seeking this type of treatment until their skin has healed completely, so as not to make the issue worse. Symptoms after your Restylane® injection should subside within the week. If they persist, please give our Rockville Centre, NY office a call immediately. In rare cases, an antibiotic may be necessary. As with all dermal fillers, there is a slight risk of infection or other severe side effects, including temporary scabbing, permanent scarring, blindness, or stroke. However, facial filler injections are safe when appropriately administered by our board-certified dermatologist at Long Island Dermatology.

Are Restylane® Lifts Recommended for Everyone?

Generally speaking, Restylane® lifts are suitable for most healthy adults between 18 and 65 who are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid. You should not seek Restylane® dermal fillers if you have a bleeding disorder, inflammatory skin condition (psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea), or if you take blood thinners. Please discuss all potential health risks with your primary physician and our board-certified dermatologist prior to treatment.

What’s the Difference Between Restylane® & JUVEDERM®?

Restylane® and JUVEDERM® both contain hyaluronic acid to give your skin a more youthful appearance without the use of a surgical procedure. Restylane® results may take a little longer for you to notice them, and overall, they may not last as long as JUVEDERM® results (though individual results may vary). Both treatments have been approved safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and both may require additional injections to achieve the best long-term results. Costs for both procedures are comparable, as are the treatment times and amount of expected discomfort.

To determine which type of dermal filler injection is right for your cosmetic concerns, contact Long Island Dermatology today at (516) 300-1752 to schedule a consultation with our board-certified dermatologist in either Rockville Centre, NY.
